TSMC raises bonuses for R&D staff in December due to smooth development of 2nm process

National Business Wire (Dec 28) -- TSMC has added up to NT$100,000 ($3,262) in bonuses for research and development (R&D) staff due to smooth R&D of its 2nm process, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

Citing market rumours, the report said that TSMC's R&D department added a special contribution bonus in December to comfort R&D staff because the company's 2nm process development is going well, and it's on track to advance its mass production target in 2025.

Back in October 2021, TSMC President and CEO C.C. Wei said that the company's 2nm chipmaking process was expected to be in mass production by 2025.

The special contribution bonus reportedly ranged from NT$6,000 ($196) to NT$50,000 and NT$100,000, and not everyone has an award.

TSMC did not respond directly to the rumours on Wednesday, but said that it has always adhered to the concept that employees are the most important asset of the company, striving to give its employees compensation and benefits that are higher than the industry average.
