Asian Tech Press (July 21) -- Tesla Inc. said in the latest earnings results that its Shanghai mega-factory has an annual capacity of more than 750,000 vehicles.

Tesla posted revenue of $16.934 billion for the second quarter of 2022, up 42% year-over-year, according to its second-quarter earnings results announced Wednesday night.

In the earnings presentation, Tesla said it recently upgraded its equipment for its Shanghai plant, which has an annual capacity of more than 750,000 units, making it the highest-capacity facility in Tesla's portfolio and the first time it has surpassed the U.S. automaker's factory in Fremont, California, which was the first to go into production with an annual capacity of 650,000 units.

Tesla said that in the second quarter, the Shanghai plant continued to play an important role in its global production and delivery, despite many challenges including production constraints and shutdowns due to COVID-19.

In the first half of 2022, Tesla's Shanghai plant produced nearly 300,000 electric vehicles, with half-year deliveries already accounting for more than 60% of full-year 2021 deliveries, including nearly 100,000 overseas deliveries, while Tesla delivered 565,000 vehicles globally in the first half of 2022.
