Tencent, NetEase to halt games for a day to mourn former Chinese leader Jiang

Asian Tech Press (Dec 5) -- Chinese gaming giants Tencent and NetEase have announced they will suspend their games for a day to mourn former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died in Shanghai on November 30, 2022, at the age of 96. The Chinese government will hold a memorial meeting for the former leader in the morning of Dec. 6 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Tencent's Dungeon Fighter Online, League of Legends, Honor of Kings and many other games issued notices on Monday, saying that they would suspend services on Dec. 6 and expected to resume them gradually on Dec. 7.

A number of NetEase games, including Onmyoji, Identity V and Fantasy Westward Journey, released the same announcemnts, suspending their services on Tuesday.

Following Tencent and NetEase, miHoYo's popular video game Genshin Impact issued a statement, announcing that it will suspend its service on December 6, during which players cannot log in to the game.
