Asian Tech Press (Aug 23) -- Chinese smartphone maker Honor on Tuesday denied rumors of setting up an Indian subsidiary to restart its business in the country.

In response to recent rumors of restarting its Indian operations, Honor on Tuesday issued a statement denying the rumors, according to Chinese media reports.

Honor said it has been conducting business in India through distributors, and currently has no subsidiaries or plans to set up subsidiaries in the country.

It added that there is no technology transfer nor any related plans, including and not limited to transfer of hardware and software, product and service management.

The company pointed out that PSAV Global, as its distributor in India, with the authorization to import and distribute Honor products in India and conduct related publicity and promotions for the products, cannot use Honor's brands (HONOR, etc.) in any form beyond the distributor's authority.

PSAV Global, an Indian company with a network of 5,000 retailers and distributors covering more than 100 cities in India, provides marketing, service and distribution pipeline for Honor.

Meanwhile, Honor stressed that Indian company HONOR Tech is not its partner and has no affiliation or relationship with it.

As The Economic Times earlier reported, former realme India CEO Madhav Sheth recently left the company and set up HONOR Tech in a joint venture with PSAV Global.

HONOR Tech has entered into a technology transfer agreement with Honor and plans to invest Rs 1000 crore in India to manufacture and sell Honor phones in the country, the report said.

In fact, Honor never pulled out of the Indian market , where it has always done business through distributors.

In a July 2022 interview, Honor CEO Zhao Ming said that the company would take a more steady approach to developing the Indian market after the withdrawal of Honor team.
