Musk seeks 25% voting power in Tesla

National Business Wire (Jan 16) -- Tesla Inc.'s billionaire CEO Elon Musk said on Monday that he wants to have about 25% of the voting power in the electric car maker.

Musk already owns about 13% of Tesla, the company's last financial filing for the third quarter of 2023 shows, which is a large stake, especially considering Musk sold tens of billions of dollars worth of Tesla stock in 2022.

And now, Musk is seeking more control over Tesla. Specifically, Musk tweeted on Monday, "I am uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI & robotics without having ~25% voting control."

He said he needs to have enough influence, but not so much that people can't overturn him. "Unless that is the case, I would prefer to build products outside of Tesla."
