Indian AI firm Krutrim raises $50 million, valued at $1 billion

Asia Tech Wire (Jan 26) -- Indian artificial intelligence startup Krutrim on Friday announced it has closed a $50 million funding round led by Matrix Partners India at a valuation of $1 billion.

Krutrim's founder is Bhavish Aggarwal, who along with Ankit Bhati started the Indian ridesharing company Ola Cabs in 2010.

The AI company said in a statement that it "becomes the India's fastest Unicorn and also India's first AI unicorn."

Krutrim unveiled its base Large Language Model (LLM) last month, and has been training it using data in English, local Indian languages.

The company plans to launch a conversational AI assistant that understands and speaks multiple Indian languages fluently.
