Asian Tech Press (Jan 30) -- Chinese electric car startup Xpeng Inc. has appointed the former general manager of Great Wall Motors (GWM) as president of the company.
Xpeng announced Monday that Wang Fengying, former general manager of Great Wall Motors, has formally joined the company as president, effective Jan. 30, 2023.
The Chinese electric car company said in a statement that Wang will be responsible for the company's product planning, portfolio management and sales operations, and will report to He Xiaopeng, chief executive officer and chairman of Xpeng.
Prior to joining Xpeng, Wang worked at Great Wall Motors for more than three decades, serving as vice chairman and resigning as general manager of Great Wall Motors in July 2022.
The news came after Xpeng hired former BMW senior engineer Zhong Liang to develop batteries for it in late November last year.
Xpeng delivered a total of 120,757 electric vehicles in 2022, up 23% year-over-year. As of December 31, 2022, the company's historical cumulative deliveries had reached 258,710 units.
He Xiaopeng, CEO of Xpeng, said in an internal memo to all employees on Saturday that the company plans to launch two new models and update three existing older models in 2023, with the goal of delivering 200,000 units for the year.
